Announcing d3 novo Consultancy

Sergio Gallucci announced today that he is formally establishing a technical consultancy, de novo to provide strategic and technical advisory services. d3 novo’s first clients are Scout Space: Gallucci left his previous role as CTO of Scout Space Inc. to support the team as a Strategic Technical Advisor, and the co-founder of the leading in-space fused perception and autonomy start-up will advise the company as it enters a growth phase buoyed by a foundation of RDT&E and product development spearheaded by him.

Gallucci has been operating as a technical advisor in the field for years: he has supported multiple technical teams in the dual-use segment since 2019, aside from driving Scout Space’s evolution from ground zero to a leader in its segment. Gallucci has guided efforts across space and other domains as both a formal and informal advisor. Some of his consultancy has been on ruggedization of systems for dual-use applications, utilization of novel space data processing and machine learning for assessments about terrestrial impacts, and maturation of novel beamed power, remote sensing, and energy systems for both earth and space applications. He has helped direct and refine business plans, product-market fit, and capture efforts.

The entrepreneur has demonstrated how his leadership enabled growth from zero to space with unprecedented efficiency by leading development of unique offerings and innovative business models from a technical perspective. His trailblazing has been recognized by Forbes, who named him as one of the Next 1000 Upstart Entrepreneurs to watch, and recently one of its 30 under 30 in Science. Payload Space also dubbed him one of the 30 under 30 in the space industry who are defining a path for the industry to follow.

Gallucci will now focus on integrating his insights on various technical areas and dual-use market strategy to accelerate the maturation of novel and beneficial technology. The formal establishment of d3 novo is part of his commitment to accelerating space technology for resolving multi-domain challenges. The core areas of technology and strategy around space-based data, the space environment, space systems development, and space mobility, are key focus areas which the entrepreneur has advised and continues to advise academia, start-ups, and government teams.

d3 novo stems from Gallucci’s native Portuguese, as well as Latin: “de novo”, with three core meanings of “again”, “anew”, and “with new perspective and insights”. This foray aims to provide customers and collaborators with fresh takes on dual-use technology maturation stemming from a technologist’s unique perspective on strategy. Gallucci is an experienced aerospace engineer who first attained flight heritage in 2015, during his early years in the space industry. He first started working in the space industry by supporting concept development for multiple technical demonstrations with consideration for radiation, propulsion system secondary effects, and novel mission conops.

Trailblazing a path with his technical core competencies and driving towards opportunities which maximized value-add to collaborators have been part of Gallucci’s formula for explosive growth. The entrepreneur led the aggressive technical development of on-orbit payloads since 2014, collaborating closely with partners to maximize opportunities for experimental and product-market fit validation. He is an alumnus of the Techstars Space Accelerator in 2021, where he directed a systematic product, business model, and market fit effort through hundreds of customer and stakeholder engagements, and followed this by participating in the 2021 Hyperspace Challenge and in 2022 the third cohort of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency’s NGA Accelerator and the National Security Innovation Network’s NSIN Propel Accelerator.

Gallucci has overseen technical footprint expansion and led significant expansion of engineering teams. His work has enabled significant wins for teams between 2 and 40 people, including transition of efforts from concept development into maturation, serving as a PI and technical lead on various efforts across industry and government. Gallucci is well-established as a pioneering technical leader within the space innovation ecosystem, and will work through d3 novo to bring his far-reaching expertise to the broader industry.

He noted his faith in the Scout team moving forward: “Scout's engineering leadership team has been assembled specifically to tackle novel and multifarious problems, and I am confident in their ability to continue delivering and executing. I am proud to have set the stage for the company's continued growth and success, and will continue contributing as a technical advisor.”
